large file, flash may take a little while to load. Please be patient~~

crappy videos are crappy :iconpapmingplz: so hard to hold a camera in one hand and draw/colour with the other. especially when you need to open and close lid caps on pens and markers :iconoelplz:

so um, by request, my process when it comes to colouring hair. I included how I draw headshots as well because the way that I sketch and draw out the hair ties into how I colour it, and is very important in the process.

When I draw hair, I start from a set point on the head. It allows for more flow of the hair, and makes it easier to set the hairs on the head, as well as having some organisation to it as well. If the character splits their hair, I usually just draw a line where it would split, and take the same steps from there, drawing and sketching the hairs from that point or line. *moni158 explains it a little better than I do, and you can find the tutorial/ref thing they made on it here: [link]

Colouring and inking hair for me goes from the same principles. I will start out inking from the point or line I have designated, and gently flick my pen or marker to get a gradient and brush like effect on the hair, which I suppose may be what makes it look soft, as some of you have told me that it looks. I use a lot of layering when I colour as well, either with the same colour or a different, darker shade to add shadow. I always use lightest colours first when colouring hair and clothing, etc, in contrast to skin which I prefer to start with the darkest shades and work my way up to the lightest, as it helps, for me, blend in the shadows.

The markers I typically use for colouring hair are from these brands: Prismacolor (the new ones have brush tips), and occasionally Touch or Copics. I don't own a lot of copics, and I'm not too fond of the brand itself, I find they die far too quickly and have an ugly after texture, not to mention don't blend well with other brands, so I use it extremely rarely. I think I only really use it now to add a slight tint of extra shading to Sora's hair, but even then that's still extremely rare. If I don't have the right colours from the other brands listed, then I resort to my Trias, but I use them just as sparsely as my copics, despite the volume I own, because they're like 5-6 years old.

For inking I use Sakura Micron, Grapic, and Brush. I usually only use the brushes for black hair if I'm lazy, as it adds a similar effect as going through each strand because of how worn the tips are for mine (they wear really quickly) and I usually avoid the graphic 1 and 3s when it comes to filling in and/or inking thicker lines. They just don't work well for me. Every other size I use in rotation, switching sizes depending on my need.
